Publish Recommended Practice Guides and conduct Workshops in developing countries to support agencies to develop and implement sustainable renewable energy services, including addressing the targets of the Millennium Development Goals.

Location

Main activity and output:

IEA-PVSDC has an extensive programme of work underway, but somewhat limited to PV technology. The main activities to be undertaken with REEEP co-financing will be to expand the work to include small hydro and wind technologies, as Renewable Energy Services for Developing Countries, and to conduct at least 2 additional workshops in 2005/6, in Brazil, South Africa and India. The current programme already has commitments to hold Workshops at the World Bank, and in China and Laos in the 2005/6 FY. Feedback to IEA member governments on policy change, new directions will be made. Policy redirection towards developing countries could have very significant impact on energy and environment.

Expected impact:

Recommended Practice Guides (RPGs) for implementation of energy services (electricity, or services using electricity, eg water supply , health care, communications, productive uses)

Workshops to disseminate the RPGs in Brazil and South Africa and India in addition to 2005/6 events already committed in USA - World Bank, China and Lao PDR.

RPGs available to policy makers and planners

Increased capability to identify sustainable renewable energy services

Expanded networks of stakeholders and experts
